There are three ways to fully reach the asphalted sun plateau of Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. The quietest ride is from Tschupbach (steep!). From Ried, you can go up in two ways; you take the Serfauser Strasse and stay left in the first hairpin bend towards Fiss, or you turn right to Ladis in that bend. The latter climb is much shorter, but Ladis is also lower than Fiss. So if you want to go to Fiss, this road is longer, but this climb combined with the climbing section to Fiss afterwards is more attractive because the road is quieter (but still not as quiet as from Tschupbach). The climb to Ladis itself is therefore quite short with a length of 3.8 kilometers (measured from the bridge over the Inn in Ried to the connection to the Dorfstrasse in Ladis). The climb has an average gradient of about 9.2% and is therefore still quite challenging.
The first part of the climb to the right turn in the first hairpin bend is doable, apart from the amount of traffic. Once you turn right, it gets quieter, but the road also starts to climb more. A beautiful section follows, in which a hairpin bend to the left and right herald a steep section of about 12-15%. After that second bend, you soon see Burg Laudegg and that’s pretty much where we’re climbing to.
The road levels off a bit here and a hairpin bend to the left and right are clearly less steep than the stretch before. Climbing like this is nice and the Ladis town sign is quickly passed, after which we again tackle the last part of the climb at gradually lower percentages between the houses. Arriving at the Dorfstrasse, it’s nice to turn right for a moment and, for example, take a break at the Burg Laudegg lake. In the past, there were beautiful flower beds there, nowadays everything is tiled with some rusty flower boxes and benches.
Every inch in this Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis region is used for tourist activities, so this is now also called ‘Erholungszone’ or something like that. Too bad. The choice now is to continue cycling to Ladis and/or Serfaus, for example to continue cycling to the Möseralm or Leithe Wirt, descend via the main road from Fiss or continue to Serfaus and descend there to Tschupbach. Plenty of possibilities!
